Volunteer Program
One way for the Institute for Family Medicine to expand services to disadvantaged children and families in the area is through recruitment and coordination of volunteers to assist in the programs.
Medical, dental, and nursing professionals volunteering with the Institute for Family Medicine are included in the state legal defense fund for liability protection (volunteers to a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization).
Opportunities vary, and will be matched with your training, interests, and availability. While new volunteer opportunities present themselves regularly, some existing options include:
For physicians and mid-level providers:
In our work with schools and children support organizations, we need volunteer family physicians, pediatricians, FNPs, and PNPs for periodic physical exams and management of illness at various sites. Back-to-school time is also particularly busy with requests for our participation in health fairs.
For nurses:
Assisting our physicians and nurse practitioners as they go into our school district to provide physical examinations and immunizations. Some of our residential child services organizations also need nursing assessments on new admissions. We are also expanding our community education programs.
For lay volunteers:
Assisting our physicians and nurse practitioners as they go into school districts. Assisting with community outreach and special projects.
